10 of the Best Game Of Thrones Quotes Of All Time

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Winter is coming!!! and with it are the best quotes from Game Of Thrones…

Dragons, Wolves and Horses… well well, the highly rated series on HBO has its own way of depicting power and prejudice. Just imagine Game of Thrones without its famous dialogues or quotations. Ahaa! that’s a no no.

Over the fantastic six seasons of bullying, bragging and burning there are numbers of “soul piercing one liners” that makes you either pause the video or repeat the words!!!

Before we forget to mention, it was really tough to get just top ten quotes or let us say top ten one liners from the best ever series from HBO, as all of its words are just a woooooo. So let the game of words begin:

1. “WHEN YOU PLAY THE GAME OF THRONES, YOU WIN OR YOU DIE”. – Cersei Lannister

Season 1 Episode 7

This clear cut phrase was said by Cersei Lannister to Ned Stark. The title of episode 7 from season 1 is a part of this dope quote. That’s just a willingly made obscure warning from the ruling Queen Cersei to the Hand of the King, Ned Stark.

When Ned Stark, the man of honour, warns Cersei that he will babble to Robert Baratheon about Cersei and her brother Jamie’s horrible hidden relationship, Cersei utters these words as a thinly veiled warning of his impending doom.

2. “VALAR MORGHULIS”- “All men must die, but we are not men”. – Missandei and Khaleesi

Season 3 Episode 3

The third episode of Season 3 is where Khaleesi really earns the title of ‘Mother of Dragons’. It is when Missandei says the popular Valyrian word “Valar Morghulis”; the term simply means “All men must die”. Daenerys replies back by saying “Yes, All men must die but we are not men”.

This scene was really eye catchy when our fearless khaleesi walks out of Astapor after showing off her bargaining skills by setting the slavemaster on fire. “Dracarys!!!”

3. “YOU KNOW NOTHING JON SNOW” – Ygritte

Season 2 Episode 7

Expect the unexpected is what GOT is all about and the maximum credit goes to everybody’s favorite bastard Jon Snow.

What is Nothing? The only person who gives proper definition to the word ‘nothing’ in Game of Thrones is Jon Snow.

In between all the blood shedding wars and stinking politics, the only chill in the air is between Ygritte and her breath taking lover Jon Snow. Their story arc, especially, the way they fall in love with each other while planning to cut throats for the sake of enimity is both contradictory and beautiful.

Season 2, Episode 7 is where this harshly cute phrase is said by Ygritte. She uses it really often for Jon Snow which at times leaves him with a grin.

4. “THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD AND HIS NAME IS DEATH AND THERE IS ONLY ONE THING WE SAY TO DEATH: NOT TODAY” – Syrio Forrel

Season 1 Episode 6

Syrio Forel, Arya stark’s inspiring dance teacher from the free city of Braavos utters these words to her. Arya is Ned Stark’s bravest daughter and believes in guts more than glamour.

She takes tuitions to swing the sword as it is more of a passion than a hobby for this bravest and most hot-blooded wolf of the House of Stark.

Episode six of Season 1 is where the teacher: Syrio Forel says this famous phrase to Arya. Not to forget that even after Syrio and Arya tragically bid farewell, Arya still uses the term “Not Today” whenever death is chasing her – which is just about all the time.

5. “THE NIGHT IS DARK AND FULL OF TERRORS” – Melisandre

Multiple Times since Season 2

The scary and creepy music with chants for “lord of light” from the Red Woman, makes us stare at our own thoughts for a moment. For Melisandre- the red woman is not just appealing for that red gown covering her all the time and the blood colored hair she has, but also for the ponderous words she uses.

Melisandre is the spiritual advisor to Stannis Baratheon.

“The night is dark and full of terrors” is used by the red woman many times throughout the episodes and seasons of Game of Thrones but it all began in season 2 where her faith in the lord of light is her essential aspect…

The words are said by Melisandre to Maester Cressen at the beginning and after that she uses them multiple times to either warn or flaunt her faith in lord of light.

6. “HODOR” – Hodor

Season 6 Episode 5

Perhaps this can be considered as one of the saddest scenes where viewers almost wept. Season 6, Episode 5 is where Bran visualizes his past, where his favorite protector Hodor is seen as Wylis.

Ooopppssss!!! Sorry if you have not reached the episode and the secret is out.

Bran keeps warging randomly and suddenly he comes across the truth about Wylis- ‘present day Hodor’. When the white walkers are behind Meera, Hodor and Bran Stark, she screams in fear to hold the door to Hodor. And that phrase, literally, shapes Wylis into the man he is today. What was merely uttered to him in the past turned out to be one of the most endearing qualities of this gentle protector!

“Hold the door, Ho-door, Hodor” Truly one of the most gut-wrenching moments in the show.

7. “A LANNISTER ALWAYS PAYS HIS DEBTS” – Tyrion Lannister

Season 1 Episode 6

Goodness!!! This one-liner from the Lannisters is uttered more than their actual names in GOT. Nevertheless, it happens to be contradictory when at times they don’t pay it… Weirrrdddddd!!!

It seems justified to Tyrion Lannister when he says it for the first time to Bronn. Bronn saves Tyrion’s life in the trial through combat at the Eyrie, castle to the House of Arryn in the Vale. Yes, there are people polite to the imp. After all the dwarf deserves it.

Yes, Tyrion is a man of his word and later on helps Bronn with what was promised. This line was said by Tyrion Lannister in the very first season.

8. “MOON OF MY LIFE” – Khal Drogo

Season 1 Episode 6

Ahem Ahem!!! This phrase is a bit weird after the forceful marriage of Daenerys with Kahl Drogo. Cupid smiles and Kahl Drogo falls in love with his Khaleesi and calls her “the moon of my life”.

Daenerys is married to Kahl Drogo so that her brother can get the “Golden Crown” with the help of the Dothraki. Later on this unpleasant, arranged marriage turns out to be an emotionally fierce love story between Kahl and Khaleesi.

The words are said in Dothraki as “Yer Jalan Atthirari Anni” which means “You are the moon of my life”. Season 1 is where these words are uttered for the first time in Dothraki by Kahl Drogo.

9. “THE WORLD IS OVERFLOWING WITH HORRIBLE THINGS, BUT THEY’RE ALL A TRAY OF CAKES NEXT TO DEATH” – Olenna Tyrell

Season 4 Episode 3

Olenna Tyrell, the Queen of Thorns (and House of Tyrell) pushes some wisdom to her beautiful and cunning granddaughter Margery who is the Queen to be in King’s Landing. Olenna utters these words in Episode 3 of Season 4 where the politics with the Lannisters take enormous turns and Margery is full of bold question marks.

Her Grandmother uses this one-liner and very thoughtfully advises her on how to deal with the ways to conquer her in-laws, and enemies at the same time.

Contradictory again, isn’t it??? Apologies, but complications and sarcasm are what made game of thrones popular. Along with a healthy dose of political drama of course!!!

10. “A LION DOES NOT CONCERN HIMSELF WITH THE OPINION OF A SHEEP” – Tywin Lannister

Best GAME OF THRONES QUOTES -Tywin Lannister

Season 1 Episode 7

Tywin Lannister, the perpetually brooding and intense patriarch of the Lannisters is the person these words come from. So according to Tywin it all happens or has to happen his way and there is no way around.

He forces his children to marry people he wants. And ahh!! Let us not forget the amount of overloaded grudge and sharpness he carries.

The phrase was said in Season 1, Episode 7 where Tywin was flaunting the power and respect the name Lannister commands!

To put it all together Game of Thrones, one of the best shows on TV, has ‘n’ number of amazing quotes, one liners, and dialogues, and why not? After all, it is one of the most viewed series globally. We wonder if Aliens too would prefer it…. Too silly??? Sorry!!

But yes the series has ample amount of cunning literature and weird wonders to enjoy. If you can think of any other Game of Thrones one-liners that we missed (and we have certainly missed a lot), do let us know in the comment section.
